Immigration Seminar                                                                                                      Fellowship Hall

Illegal immigration is currently one of the most volatile public issues in the United States. It involves human rights, human charity, terrorism, needed sources of labor, health care costs and crime, and more. States and cities are acting. Congress may or may not be acting. Various church denominations are taking positions. Jim Wilkins will lead the way as we look into the ramifications.

"The Parables, the Greatest Stories Ever Told"

Join Trish Larkey every other Monday evening beginning, this Monday, October 16 from 7-8:30 p.m. in Room 211. All women are invited to become a part of a fun and faithful group bible study. Our discussion for this session is based on "The Parables, the Greatest Stories Ever Told." Join us for a wonderful opportunity to fellowship together!

Thank You

Thank you to all knitters who contributed scarves, hats and mittens to our Scarf Ministry. We had about 150 items to offer guests as they left our Community Dinner on Sunday. Young and old alike truly appreciated the opportunity to select a scarf to wear this winter. Many persons promptly put their scarf and/or hat on and wore them despite the warm weather! If you had intended to knit or crochet something and didn't get it finished, you still have a chance to participate. We will offer the Scarf Ministry again at the November Community Dinner. KnitWits meet on the second and fourth Fridays at 9:30 in 112. Join us!

Wanted Needed: Wheelchair

Do you have a wheelchair in your garage or basement you are not using and could donate to the church?  We are in need of one to have in the new addition of the church.

Second Hand Smoke & Children

Second hand smoke causes problems in children beginning with the unborn child.  Children born to mothers who smoke are usually of low birth weight.  SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), the exact cause of which is still unknown, is more common in smoking homes.  Respiratory infections, asthma, ear infections, etc. are much more common in children of smoking parents.  Visits to medical offices and emergency rooms are more frequent.  Around three million children in the United States under the age of 6 years breathe second hand smoke at home at least 4 days a week.  How do we protect the children who are unable to protect themselves?  Simple!  Insist there be no smoking in the homes or automobiles.

This message is sponsored by The Health Ministry of First Presbyterian Church. Responding to God’s gift of life, and our life in Jesus Christ, we seek to nurture health, healing and wholeness in body, mind and spirit in our church and community.

Soup Warms the Body & Soul

The Presbyterian Women are once again sponsoring the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. We will be responsible for providing the food and serving the meal on Thursday, October 26 at the Salvation Army. Thank you to all who have signed up to help. We need one more casserole and the recipe is posted outside the church office. If you would like to participate, but just can’t get out, call the church office and we will arrange to pick your item up the morning of the 26th. Financial donations are always welcome. You do not have to be a member of a circle to participate. All women of the church are Presbyterian Women. Thank you.

A Church-wide Mission Trip

We have filled the church bus!  On November 11, thirteen adults from our church will travel to Gulfport, Mississippi to help with the rebuilding efforts and to share the love of Christ with the hurricane survivors.  Even if you aren’t going to Mississippi for the week, you can participate in this mission trip!  How?

Bring in a new or gently used blanket, which we will take to the hurricane survivors.

Donate money to be used to purchase food to help feed the growing homeless population.

Sign up to be a prayer partner and put together a care package for a volunteer going on the trip.

Make or sign a card to help raise the spirits of the hurricane survivors.

PRAY for the volunteers, those in need, and all those who are sharing the love of God through compassionate acts of service.

Together we can make a difference—one small act at a time.  Call Donna or John with any questions.

CD Inventory

Just a quick plea/reminder: if you have borrowed CD’s or DVD’s from the Youth Office, please return them by October 15th. We are doing a CD/DVD inventory and implementing a check-out system so that ALL youth & adults can enjoy our amazing Christian music selection.

Please pray for the safety of all the students attending upcoming Homecoming events these next few weekends.

The Internet and You(th)

Mark your calendars now for Sunday night October 22.
